Questions:

As a result of looking at food labels, what did you learn about food?
Look at the ingredients of one human food label. Write down the food name. What ingredients came from animals?
What ingredients in the above food label came from plants?
What similarities and differences did you notice between the human food and pet food labels you looked at?
Choose an animal/insect from the ecosystem walk. What do you think it eats? Explain what you think it gets from its food.

Answers:

Pet food has lots of more ingredients that us humans wouldn't want to eat and its ideal for pets but not ideal for humans. While in human food it's very direct for humans, so it's ideal for humans but not ideal at all for pets.
It's tomato soup, but there is no food that comes from animals in that soup.
There is tomato puree, high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, soybean oil, carrot fiber, spices,
The pet food definitely has more foods from plants and different animals that humans wouldn't wanna eat. The human food is clean so humans can eat it. But both foods have edible things you can eat and you wouldn't die from.

What does food provide to animals, including humans?
Do the pet food and human food have the same nutrients? In what ways are they different?
Does a higher calorie count mean a food is better for pets to eat? What makes pet owners think that?
What is it in food that helps us repair our bodies and grow?
What in food helps us move and stay warm?
In what way does energy transfer when animals eat food?
Look at the nutrition label below for milk. How much energy is in the food?
What matter is in the food?

Answers:

It includes life. It includes everything. Without food means no plants and no plants means no oxygen and lots of carbon dioxide.
They do not, human food is a lot more healthier for humans and dog food is not very healthy for humans.
higher calorie count means that the animal has more energy and that they'll have to feed their pet less of that food.
Calcium, vitamin C.
The calories help us move and stay warm including with all the vitamins and nutrients in the food.
The calorie count decreases in each animal by 10%. The animal the eats that animal does not get the same calorie count of how much that animal ate.
There are 160 calories in 1 cup or 8fl.oz. of this milk.
In the Tomato soup, there is Tomato Puree (water, tomato paste), water, lesson than 2%of high fructose corn syrup, salt, corn syrup, soybean oil, carrot fiber, sugar, spices, citric acid, and natural flavors.

Lake Ecosystem Interactions

Within a system of living things

Duck eat plants and bugs.
Ducks eat small fish and small sea animals.
Ducks breath air (oxygen).
Plants are absorbing the water to survive.

Between living & non-living things

Ducks float on the water.
Duck starts lifting off from the water.
Ducks communicate by a type of quack sound.

Lake Ecosystem Interactions

Within a system of living things

Plant(s) drinking water to survive.
Fish is surviving from the air by breathing trough the water by getting air trough it's gills.
Fish eats plants and smaller sea creatures.
Algae is eating smaller bacteria and starts to cover the rocks.

Between living & non-living things

Fish is swimming in water.
Plant(s) are floating in the water.
Rocks(s) are starting to get covered in algae.
Plant(s) move in the water.

Reflect & Synthesize:

What kinds of living things (organisms) do you see in both pictures?
What other living things might be here, even if you can't see them in the photos?
Why might living things in these photos interact with each other?
Read the BIG IDEA below. How do these pictures depict an ecosystem?

Ducks, fish, fungi, plants, trees.
Bacteria.
So they can survive, for example the fish absorbs the water so it can survive. The ducks also survive by eating plants and small sea creatures.
The ducks are interacting with the fish by eating it. The algae is eating other bacteria and spreading and its interacting with other bacteria.

What do living things get from their ecosystems?
What evidence do you have to support your answer to Question 1?
What does the term ecosystem mean, based on your experience in this lesson? (Don't use the definition from the BIG IDEA here. Put it into your own words.)
Brainstorm at least one question you have about Ecosystems that you hope you learn from this unit.
Look at the image below that shows a portion of a forest ecosystem. Name at least five components (living or non-living things) of the ecosystem that you can either observe directly or infer.
What are three (or more) interactions that might occur in this portion of the forest ecosystem?

Answers:

Food, they help each other get food, get stuff done, and do other things like that. They would help each other for bigger tings.
One example is that when we found the little ant hill they were pushing all the dirt to the top. This was probably because they were building a home. To make this home faster all these ants helped each other build it.
An ecosystem is a system where organisms interact with each other. These organisms may be living but they also may be non-living organisms of their environment.
Does every different chain of organisms have a different chain of the food chain?
Deer, trees, grass, rocks, water
Deer eat grass, trees move in the wind, a bird fly's above the deer.
