What I think I know About Mars

What do I already know about Mars?

• Mars has dust storms a lot
• Mars has a group of Mountains that stretch out as wide as the US
• There is signs that Mars might have life
• There is signs that Mars might have water
• Scientists are pretty sure that we'll be able to live on Mars
• Mars has a regular day (24 hours) like Earth
• Mars has colder weather
• Mars is smaller than Earth.
• Mars has the biggest volcano in the solar system

1. What do you know about NASA's plans to visit Mars?
2. How long will the trip take?
3. What supplies and equipment will the astronauts need to survive there?
4. What do you think are the risks of traveling to such a distant planet?
5. What would you want to bring with you?

1. They first will send a robot and the robot will test the ground and objects on Mars for water and signs of life. they will study Mars from pictures from the robot and will take that into consideration for the real trip. they will first launch a rocket ship to mars so the travelers can get back easily. They also need to train before the trip and that can take a long time. In training, people need to get used to no gravity and the exercise.

2. It would take 2 and a half years for everything to happen like it will take 20 some months so earth can go to Mars fast and 104 to get to Mars. They also need to stay in small places for a long time if there was a problem in the space craft. If that happens, they go to the safe place in the craft which is very small. They will however be on Mars for 1 1/2 years!

3. They will bring plants for food which will be artificially made and also they will have a machine which can turn urine into clean water. They also will have treadmills so astronauts can stay in shape and so they can be used to gravity and their bones will stay healthy. They also need to have suits for mars so it feels like they are on Earth.  

4. If something goes wrong, the mission is over and if your ship breaks down when you land, you'll be stuck there until you die which is very bad and also the planet life. This could be very bad and if a minor mistake happens, you will be in trouble because you'll be so far away.

​5. I'd like Oxygen tanks because Mars doesn't have the oxygen we need. I would also probably bring food that could be easily made and also a heavy suit to wear because of the gravity so I would weigh the same.
