The garden that we will have on Mars will supply us with fresh fruits and veggies, but what if all these plants fail?
This is the food that NASA will be giving us for the journey, and for on Mars. But like the garden, this food can run out! And when it does, we will need protein, but how will we get it?
Chickens, that's how. We will bring two booted bantam chickens, because they weigh the least (1 lb. 10 oz). But chickens produce eggs, and eggs have protein in them! If we bring roosters to mate with the chickens, and they survive the trip to Mars, we could be having scrambled eggs every morning! We will bring two Ameraucana roosters (6.5 lbs). To make these animals live we will need to feed them one half cup of dry rice and cup corn each day. Hopefully, we can start growing corn and rice on the space shuttle and the research center. |
