What I Think About Mars

2/20/2015

Notes on the video:
  • Only rockets have gone to Mars so far, no people.
  • Mars is a third the size of earth and as wide as Missouri.
  • Mar's tallest mountain is three times taller than Mount Everest.
  • On Mar's they found a rock that had a shape like a face.
  • They also found polar caps that made them believe that there was once water on this planet.
  • It takes five to ten months to make the fuel for the rocket to launch into Mar's.
  • It would take about one hundred and two days to get to Mars.
  • Today cosmonauts spend up to fourteen months in space.
  • There is a Russian Cosmonaut training center called Star City.

  1. What do you know about NASA's plans to visit Mars?
  2. How long will the trip take?
  3. What supplies and equipment will the astronauts need to survive there?
  4. What do you think are the risks of traveling to such a distant planet?
  5. What would you want to bring with you
1. I know that NASA is trying to make ways so that the trip is shorter and that they can start building up on Mars. I also know that they have been finding more and more proof that there is life on Mars.

2. The trip will take six months just to get to Mars using there new technique.

3. They will need all of the work out materials, some food, they will probably need to bring some type of thing to keep them busy when they have nothing else to do, they will also need a lot of water.

4. I think that is you tried to go to Mars many things would go wrong. For example, you might start losing strength, you might have to go in the room were you will safe incase of emergency, but in that room there is no exercising machines and u might me in there from hours to weeks.

5. I would want to bring a water bottle to make sure I keep healthy. I would also like to take a phone so I could take pictures along with being able to find out were we are and make sure I was not bored. I would also bring a book or a card game to keep busy when I was not exercising or working.

How do your cells get the nutrients they need?

2/17/2015

  • 1.How did the gelatin in Cup 1 change?  Did its ability to pass through the filter change?

  • 2.Did the enzyme powder cause the change in Cup 1?  What evidence do you have to support your answer?

  • 3.What was the one difference between Cups 1 and 2?  Was there a change to the gelatin in cup 2?

  • 4.Which material from our lab was a metaphor for the bloodstream?  In which cup did the gelatin’s nutrients reach the “bloodstream”?

  • 5.Based on your experimental findings, why do you think it’s important for the food you eat to be digested?

  • 6.How is food digested in the digestion system?  What type of digestion did the model demonstrate?

  • 7.What do you think would happen if you ate lots of food but couldn’t digest it? Would you still be hungry? Would you have lots of energy? Would you perform well in a sports competition?  Explain!
  •  1. Cup one passed through the filter right as we set it on the table. It literally took five seconds for the tenderizer to kick in! Once it did all of the gelatin was at the bottom of the cup well the meat tenderizer sticked to the walls of the coffee filter.

    2. Yes it did. It did because in cup two it did not sink through until someone in my group accidentally made a hole in the coffee filter. This means that the enzyme powder made the gelatin go to the bottom of the cup.

    3. No no change what so ever in cup two. In cup two it stayed the same. On the other hand there were three girls in the group including me, and we made a hole in our cup two coffee filter. So for us yes, but for the outer groups no with means there was supposed to be no change.

    4. The bloodstream was the tenderizer. In cup one we had the tenderizer. It made it fall out of the coffee filter and then the tenderizer stuck to the wall.

    5. I think that if we didn't digest our food everyday, then we would have one big pit of food in our stomachs or throat. That would cause either choking, stomach pains and or throwing up, and getting very sick. Without us digesting our food we would probably die in anywhere from a week or less.

    6. Food is digested by it digesting in your stomach and then going down to your rear and coming back out. In this project I felt like the gelatin was the sumac in a way. Then the tenderizer was the food. When it went in it digested and came out of the coffee filter with i believe was so supposed to represent the rear. This demonstrated the digestive system.

    7. You would not be hungry. You would not have energy. You would probably pass out if your played any sort of sport. If this happened food would be clogging up everything in your body. Not much air would go through and you would die in a matter of time.

When I went to lunch today there was a sandwich on the ground. It was disgusting, there was grey mold  around it that looked like it was going to climb on the sandwich. Then Alison came by and took a good look at the sandwich .She saw that I was looking directly at it.

“ I dare you. She said.

      “Dare me to do what?

“Eat that sandwich.” I was so frightened Alison dared me to eat the sandwich. I went and grabbed the sandwich off the ground. I took one bite and was miserable. Alison started laughing like a hyena.

    1. What was the purpose of breathing through the straws?
    2. While breathing through the wide straw, were some of the activities more difficult to do than others? If so, which ones?
    3. How does your breathing change as you become more active? Why do these changes happen?
    4. Why do you think that breathing through the wide straw caused the effects that you described?
    5. Did breathing through the thin straw affect you differently than breathing through the wide straw? If so, explain why you think this occurred.
    6. Why do you think you were asked to breathe through the thin straw for 20 seconds instead of 1 minute?
    7. Why do you think you were not asked to walk or run while breathing through the thin straw?
    8. How would your daily life be affected if you could only breathe in small amounts of air with each breath?
    1. The purpose of breathing through the straws was to be able to tell what having Asma was like. So we did a few tests to see what it was like.

    2. Too me none of the activities were harder they were all easier even though they were still challenging. On the other hand I never did try to walk or run with the thin straw but I believe I would still think the same.

    3. It changes because your body needs more air then usual when you stay active sometimes. So as you run your body is trying it's best to suck in more air as it flows through.

    4. I think it caused the effects because you are breathing through a straw instead of your mouth and therefore it makes it harder. I t makes it harder because there is less room for air to get in and out when you are breathing through a straw.

    5. Yes very much so. I think it did because when you breath through the thin straw it makes it so that it is even more hard to get lots of air in and out then just a regular straw with is still very hard.

    6. I think we were asked to do that because some people were having trouble doing the regular straw for a minute and that if that person did the thin straw for a minute they would ended not feeling well. He also said that so that kids with asthma already don't have to use there inhaler to much after hopefully.

    7. I think we weren't asked that because some people might of passed out. When you can't breathe very well sometimes you pass out and when people were doing just breathing well sitting with the thin straw they felt like passing out.

    8. It would effect your life big time. You would probably ended living less then others, you would probably almost pass out when doing things to active, and you wouldn't really ever be the same.
