Milo, Tock, and the Humbug were about to start their quest to return Rhyme and Reason. They stood in the market square, filled with everybody, who had finished dinner. They cheered loudly, for they always loved to see people go, especially when the people leaving were leaving to go on a quest. The King shook hands with them and said,
"Use my words well."
Milo replied,
"We will."
The five advisers ran up, all bowed in turn, then said,
"Good Bye."
"So long."
"Adios"
"Cheerio."
"Toodle-oo."
Milo listened to all of them speak, then said goodbye. The letter man passed free letters out to anybody who wanted one. Milo decided to eat an A, for they were his absolute favorites.
Milo and Tock were overwhelmed by people saying,
"Good bye."
They waved, and got into the car.
"Good Luck, L-U-C-K." cried the Spelling Bee.
They drove slowly through the crowd, people parting in front of them to make a path. Everybody kept on waving and cheering. They soon were out of Dictionopolis, and the moment the people couldn't see the car, they all cheered. They danced, and somebody sang. Officer Shrift walked around saying,
"You are guilty! And so are you!"
Everyone was incredibly happy.
Far off in the distance, Milo thought he heard a strange noise that seemed to be coming from Dictionopolis. It sounded as though people were still cheering. Which was absurd, since they were long gone, but he still couldn't be sure.
